  • Rasp Pi and Synchro

    The past few days I've been reading up on running Synchro on a Pi. Seems pretty straightforward, and that little device has a lot more power than what used to run most boards.

    The only question I have is how do you handle mail exchange? I assume there
    are some services out there that you can subscribe to that will act as your
    MX, etc.

    Your BBS can act its own mail exchange (MX, in DNS) unless your ISP blocks inbound traffic on TCP port 25. If you need an MX service, Vertrauen can do that for you: http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:vert_mx, but please make sure you really need it first (http://wiki.synchro.net/faq:tcpip#ports).

    Need more information, anmd what does this have to do with a Pi? In my case, I have a public IP address, so I simply pointed my A record to the BBS's IP address, and the MX to the BBS's domain name (as specified in the A record). This is the same I would do for any mail server on an unfiltered public IP, regardless of OS.

    Now, if port 25 is filtered, then you have to jump through hoops, and others here know more about those. Getting an unfiltered Internet feed with a public IP has been no issue for me.

    Thanks for the information. It appears I am clear on port 25, so I'll give it a try.
