QEMM I remember that i used that al the time for my bbs back in the day befor M>thwe internet.

    Oh, the memories...

Ain't it the truth?? And, when you had a 9600 or 1440 baud modem
before anyone else, you thought "you were smokin'"!! <G>

That feeling wore of pretty quickly after realizing there was nobody else to connect to at that speed yet.

Yeah, that's true...but it didn't take long for folks to upgrade.

Years ago, when we had BBS user/Sysop gatherings in the Little Rock
area...at that time, there were at least a dozen BBS's in the area. Now, there's 2 BBS's in Little Rock, and one in Mayflower, about 18 miles
    northwest of Little Rock.

But, we'd have a large contingent of users and Sysops there (several
Sysops would process prospective users on the spot...and the adult BBS
Sysops (there were 2 in the area) carding potential uers.

Yet, the one moment I remember, is where a former Sysop (I think he
died a few years ago), broke out a fancy new laptop computer at the
table. The conversation STOPPED, and all eyes gravitated to his new
"toy", as if to say "Wow!!". :)

I'm Fido RC10 for California and Nevada, living out along the coast, and curiously, I have a couple of sysops within a few miles of me. You'd think they'd be a little more spread out.

I have a bulletin on my BBS with "long gone central Arkansas BBS's".
One that had shut down several years back has come back online...but
mine is the "longest running". Now, there were times it was down for maintenance, hardware upgrades, power/internet outages, and weather (thunderstorms can be real numerous in Arkansas at times during the
year)...but at least it's still around.

Every so often, another area BBS Sysop and I will gather at a local restaurant for lunch for a time of food and fellowship. But, with work schedules, it's hard to find a good day and time.
