  • ERROR 24 (Too many open files)

    Not sure what I did, but when I tried to connect today, everything had blown up and syslog was full of these kind of errors:

    Oct 4 00:05:52 Eldritch sbbs: evnt prepackQWK !ERROR 24 (Too many open files) in logon.cpp line 557 (logonstats) opening "/sbbs/ctrl/dsts.dab" access=2
    Oct 4 03:11:27 Eldritch sbbs: message repeated 4380 times: [ srvc 0045 IMAP !ERROR 24 accepting connection]


    I stopped the BBS and started it again and it seems ok right now.

    Any thoughts? (Dont open too many files?)

    Sounds like a bug that's been fixed. Looks like you haven't update/re-built since August 6th, and that's the day the bug was fixed. So likely, you just need to update/rebuild sbbs again.

    Some sysops were having this issue, and it looked like Digital Man fixed it with an update in August. I'd recommend getting the latest Synchronet dev binaries.

    yep, lots of good bbses lost/gone thanks to dtdns shutting down.

    i was working on a script that would ping them and see if they existed then assign them a bbses.info subdomain but i lost interest.

    now they gone
