Hey DM. Why is there no compiled versions of Synchronet BBS for Linux or Raspberry Pi like Mystic has?

I see it is now Synchronet BBS version 3.18 for Linux. Nice to see a new version of it. :-)

The version has simply been incremented. I don't think any major new functionality has been added recently.

Probably because of the addition to init-xtern and init-fidonet, who pretty big features that assist the sysop with getting up FTNs and doors.
i always had problems with setting up fidonet. so glad there's an easier way now. :-)

It took some getting going for me and then when I added my first
othernet, I had to jiggle some things around, but now adding a new net
is pretty easy, even if there's a bunch of steps you have to go through
to get there. I have the process down now. I'm still not sure I have my echocfg as it "should be" but I know it works so I'm not likely to
change it.

My first FTN - Fidonet itself - took a few goes to get right on Synchronet, but each successive FTN has got easier, to the point that I can now set one up in minutes and have it working first go. Last week, I even had to renumber one of my FTNs, because the owner of that network was forced to change zones. I actually managed it better than the other end, because I was able to preserve all of my echomail feeds, because I simply edited areas.bbs to match the net addressing. And it all worked first go. :)

I'm not sure he was forced to change zones, but it was very highly suggested that he did. My fault, sorry :) Zone 92 was already being
used by another net. lol
Yup, I can add a net in a few minutes.
scfg
add alias to the list of networks
import message areas - change directory and clone, then fix privs
export areas to areas.bbs
import file areas and change directory
echocfg
add setting for linked node
add the domain to the list
binkd.cfg
Add domain entry, add do list of addressed
binkd.inc
Added hub node if necessary
networks.txt
My own file used for an areafix/filefix/binkd call script
then run maketickit - my own script to generate a tickit.ini file
Logout, wait for bbs to recycle. All done.
I'm writing this here for anyone else who may not have a process down.

Well that kinda makes it awkward when most software is not fully 5D aware LOL

I think he's referring to the new init-fidonet.js module. Try it out. :-)

To do that I would need to update Synchronet and then ask the New York Fido coordinator for a node number and feed. I'm better off waiting for hell to freeze over.

The coordinator of the New York net should be able to assign you a node numb without to much trouble. He will want to setup a secure session with your no also since he is responsible for directing any routed netmail addressed for

Yeah, just a little bit. I did find a list of nets that someone
postbined, very surprised to see zone 12 not in use which is what was picked.

Has it been incremented as well for Windows too?

The various flavors of Synchronet share the same source code and thus the same version numbers.

So do we call this version 3.18a then? Like other versions were?

Yeah I was surprised that z12 hadn't been claimed until now. That's why I went
for 432, since 432 MHz is the SSB part of the 70cm amateur band and highly >unlikely to be claimed by anyone else. :) And the hub address is almost like >the SSB calling frequency. :D

It may have been claimed once upon a time.
Back in the DOS days, there were some utilties that did not seem to
like zone numbers above 256 (or maybe it was 128). I was trying to set
up a zone for a non-FTN network for bridging and had a lot of fun with that. :)

No, Mystic is way better. You should check it out. I hear it runs on iPad.
