  • Curious Uptime Question

    So what is everyones highest uptime for Synchronet? :)

    I've had like a month. But I keep doing different things to it. So I go offline from time to time. I think I saw Digital Man @ Vertrauen has years of straight uptime.

    I've had like a month. But I keep doing different things to it. So I go offline from time to time. I think I saw Digital Man @ Vertrauen has years of straight uptime.

    I think by "uptime" he means continuous operation of the Synchronet/sbbs process (not rebooting or restarting of the program):

    $ finger .stats@cvs.synchro.net
    ...
    uptime = 8 days, 18 hours, 55 minutes and 43 seconds

    I've definitely had over a 100 days of uptime for sbbs on cvs.synchro.net, but when I'm actively developing/improving the software, I have to restart the processes to run the latest and test. vert.synchro.net gets restarted more frequently since that my desktop/development system with a nice graphical debugger, etc.

    If I can ask a quick question. I have to restart my BBS when a port doesn't bind. Is that a Synchronet problem or a server problem? Is there another way to bind a port without a restart of Synchronet so I can keep my uptime??

    It's most likely a TCP problem, but you can work-around it a couple of ways: http://wiki.synchro.net/faq:tcpip#bind
