do you guys know that there is synchronet source code in rick parishes
    gamesrv?
I found the gamesrv gpl source code and see synchronet source in it.
it even says his name in the header file.
I know synchronet is open source but he could have left robs name in the source.

If he's using Synchronet's fossil, it wouldn't be a problem, except that the credit isn't being given. I'm pretty sure that's a license violation, unless he has Rob's permission.

well, I have the source code for the gamesrv.
and I see besides the fossil routines, most of the doors engine is synchronet. the modual is gsdoors.exe is something.
I mean, it's fine since synchronet is open source,
I just thought it was wierd that he deleted robs name in the code and put his own. it's like, if I redid the majorbbs to be a game server,
I would leave in the authours name in the source code and put modded by me. course look at how maybe systems were based on wwiv code and how many even mentioned waynes work.

i think rick had problems in the past with someone who had taken the GS code and monkey'd with it, this could be related to the source code cory has.

people tried to take the gs code and say it was there bbs system and maybe later tried to combine it into some GS+synchronet mutt distro.

i looked at the sourcecode on sourceforge and everyone seems to be in order.

i know dribble was doing all kinds of dumb stuff with gameserver and iniquity sourcecode.

I heard the programmer of a majorbbs game modded the bbs code so it's just a wrapper for his game. Crossroads of the elements.

Hey Corey, I can only assume you're referring to the $Id CVS keyword in xtrn.cpp. If that's the case, the replacement of rswindell with rickparrish occured automatically when I first commited GameSrv to sf.net's CVS server.
And the purpose of the header isn't to say "rickparrish wrote the contents of this file", it's to say "rickparrish was the last person to commit this file.

So just to be clear, I didn't remove Rob's name from his source. In fact if you had looked a couple lines down, you'd see his name is on the copyright.

Is this statement based on Corey's misinterpretation of the CVS keyword, or
did you actually do your own research and find a lack of credit being given?

It was never my intention to not credit Rob. GameSrv is pretty useless
without the Synchronet FOSSIL (well not quite true now that there's NetFoss, but that didn't exist in the beginning), and I've never tried to hide that fact.

So if I have in fact missed crediting Rob somewhere, please let me know where and it'll be fixed shortly.

GameSrv definitely aims to be "doors without the bbs stuff", but it's not really accurate to say it's based on Synchronet. It definitely uses its
FOSSIL (and the related support files), but you can't blame Rob for any of the other code!
