Deuce.... does this have to do with irc or is it replacing inter-bbs module?

Since I'm not sure how often deuce peruses doveNet, so I figured I'd fill you in a bit since you're off the mark on what this does. Simply put, deuce made it so you can connect to Synchronet using a Hotline client - but it's still
got a few things to flesh out, like chat.

I connected yesterday - it was very hotline-esque. If you don't know what hotline is, people coincidentally were talking about it in DoveNet hardware/software help very recently - but that's actually not where he got the idea from. Anyways, I don't want to gossip too much, I just wanted to alleviate confusion based on some of the things I know from loitering in irc.

Hope that clear things up a bit.

Appreciate the info. Only reason I asked was I saw the changes to the services.ini and he had it inder the irc portion of the file.

    Be well..

    No and no.

Hotline is an old protocol used in the late 90s/early 2000s basically for Mac warez. The protocol features chatting, file up/downloads, and threaded "news".

A windows client is available here: http://www.hyperspasm.com/underline/underline-Win.zip

And an OS X client here: http://hl.udogs.net/files/Hotline%20Files/Apps/Mac/Nostalgia_0.989.zip

There are also GUI and console *nix clients... mhx and shx are both console, gtkhx is GUI.

I actually ran into Devin Teske at a conference, and we were chatting about our
computing histories when he mentioned he worked on *nix Hotline clients. Obviously, once I was reminded of the Hotline protocol, I realized Synchronet had to have it.

Thanks for the explaination!! I'm assuming it's sorta like an irc chat client... without the server.. :)

Well, that chat part is, but the Big Feature was file transfers that supported the Mac multiple fork thing. The threaded news also turned into a BBS style forum.

So it's closer to an IRC client, an FTP client, and an NNTP client in the same (crappy) user interface.
