    N5VLZ:

The fall severe weather season is in full swing
in the Arklatex, Oklahoma, Missouri, and the
Arklamiss regions, with numerous tornadoes over
the last several days, and it continues through
Election Day. Ryan Hall, KJ4WHM, has been doing
live feeds on his YouTube channel, on the storms.

Beneficial rainfall the last few days has lowered
the number of Arkansas county burn bans from 66
to 34, and lowered the fire danger from high to
extreme; down to from moderate to high. The storms
will delay my finishing the audio transcript for
the November, 2024 issue of the QCWA Journal. I've
been watching the RadarScope app during the day as
well. Rafael has formed, but it should weaken from
a hurricane to a tropical storm in the Gulf Of
    Mexico.

With the pressure changes, the arthritis has been
causing quite a bit of pain, so I'm having to take
more aspirin than usual. I hope that the NOAA
Weather Radio alert doesn't go off too much in
the night, so I can get some sleep.

Society has gotten so bad, like most everyone
is like a bunch of spoiled brat, temper tantrum
kids, when they don't get their way. Whether it's
for sporting events or elections, it seems as if
the topics of sportsmanship and civility have
gone the way of the dinosaurs. It reminds me of a
QWK Mail tagline that said "I'm NOT spoiled!!
Am Not!! Am Not!! Am Not!! Am Not!! Am Not!"
    (hi hi).

The broadcast stations, print publications, screen
print shops, etc. will be mourning the loss of all
that ad money. But, I am sure they'll start the ads
for the 2026 races before Christmas. We could put a
big dent into the national debt, if we took all the
money spent on the political ads, items, etc., and
    directed it toward that.

That's it for me. GE Bob (NY)...how was your
    week?? >>>

    NS2B:

    GE All!

    A busy week here.

Wednesday/Thursday was our pumpkin patrol outing.
The bridge I covered was uneventful - and that's
what you want. It was really nice weather for a
change. I even had my windows rolled down for most
of Thursday night. Normally I'm running my heater
    every 30 minutes.

Saturday, went down to the Watkins Glen year end
banquet. Good food and an open bar with friends -
what else do you need?? Sad to see racing season
over for us. But, I'll be back...

My son and I have decided we're going to put
together some snacks and drinks tomorrow, and
watch the election festivities. We expect it to
be nearly as entertaining as the Super Bowl!!
    (hi hi).

That's all for me. BTU Daryl >>>

    N5VLZ:

Bob (NY), FB on the pumpkin patrol, the race
banquet, and the watch party. I have a net to
do tomorrow night, and then will try to get that
    audio transcript done.

GE Charley...how was your week?? >>>

    **

    NT5R:

    GE everyone

    Busy week

Impromptu Halloween party last Wednesday with
    Silver Sneakers workout buddies (gals)

Then dug up sweet potato patch, most of fall
    garden gone.

    Friday drive to southern Oklahoma.

Saturday son-in-law drive us to DFW fly to
    Cancun.

Missing bad weather Oklahoma and area, hope
    everyone ok

Saw early chat re 300 bps acoustic modem. Had
TRS Model 100, experiment one time acoustic
cup adapter from pay phone near highway Dallas
    TX.

Every time a truck drove, by showed garbage on
    screen.

    Fun Fun

    So btu Daryl >>>

    N5VLZ:

    Charley, I had a TRS-80 MC-10 micro color computer
    and a TRS-80 Model 100 and Model 102 laptop...ran
a BBS with a Hayes 1200 baud modem on that. I still
have the BBS software for that on my BBS. Rafael
should go between the gap between Cuba and the
Yucatan, but keep an eye on it. Lots of tornado
damage in the region. FB on the garden deal.

Carl, did you happen to run into Tom, AJ4XM, at
the Melbourne, FL hamfest?? I told him about you.
How was your week, and the hamfest?? >>>

    **

    KX4AC:

No, I don't think I saw Tom, but maybe I passed
by, and did not realize it.

We did finally have the hamfest last weekend. It
    was a bit disappointing.

There seemed to be a lot more empty tables than
usual. I expect that having to reschedule for the
hurricane caused us to lose a few people. Then,
it rained both days, so that kind of restricted
the tailgate area to the couple of good hours in
the morning before the rain started. I did attend
a couple of good forums, though.

One was on the AREDN network in Melbourne et. al.,
and the other was on Picoballoons. Both interesting
    topics.

The apartment complex had a movie night at the
office on Wednesday before Halloween. We watched
"Hocus Pocus" ... a fun movie, and definitely
appropriate for the holiday. On Halloween night,
    I did not see a single trick-or-treater. I always
think that an apartment complex would be good
pickings for the little ones, but never seem to
see anyone. I guess Halloween is just not a big
thing around here. Not like when I was a kid.

I guess that's about all the news for now. Back
    to net >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

Carl, bummer on the rainy weather for the hamfest.
FB on the movie night. I printed up a sign that
said "No Candy Available Due To Health Issues".
The caffeine in the chocolate raises the heart
rate, and the sugar raises the A1C. I had 2 small
KitKat deals at a Halloween square dance on October
26, and that was the extent of my candy.

GE Bob (OK), how was your week?? >>>

    **

    KF5TVG:

GE Daryl and all on the net!

We had a series of tornado warning in the last few
days. Closest one was about 12 miles from me.
Many homes damaged. 60+ people injured, but
thankfully, no fatalities. Estimate about 6-7 inches
of rain over the last 48 hours or so.

Got good reactions from my Adafruit "Monster M4sk"
on Halloween. It's a pair of small LCD panels which
simulate a pair of eyes moving around and blinking
randomly. Got a cheap mask from Amazon of a character
called "Momo", and trimmed the eye holes to match the
M4sk. Put a hoodie on it, and laid it in the yard,
where all the kids passed by. Turned out pretty nice.

Still enjoying several Winlink weekly nets and HAMWORD!

Feel blessed to live somewhere other than a battleground
state! We have way too many TV ads even here in the
    backwater of Oklahoma.

That's all for now. Back to net control >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

Bob (OK), they haven't had a lot of damage reports in
the last hour, but hopefully, that wasn't because they
lost communications. It'll be interesting to see what
the winter will bring. FB on the Halloween deal...I'll
bet you can stock up on candy now (hi hi). FB on the
Winlink and Hamword. I don't know if I'll even watch
the deal tomorrow night...the lawyers are the only ones
    making the money.

That's it for round 1...back to the top for final
    comments.

Bob (NY), thanks again for the BBS...anything else for
    us?? >>>

    **

    NS2B:

Just got an email from Mike KE8QPX - he got caught up
in other projects - he'd like an early checkin.

    Nothing else here - everyone have a good week - 73 >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

OK, will give Mike an early checkin...and I haven't seen
Lloyd, or Rick, but will give them an early checkin.

    Thanks for being here.

    Charley, anything else?? >>>

    **

    NT5R:

Agree, all money spent on politicians attacking each other,
    and lawyers after election.

Much better be used to help people who truly need help.

Many churches in Missouri do the Trunk or Treat for Halloween
    kits.

Have an awesome week everyone, thanks for net and node 73 >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

Charley, thanks for being here. Sometimes, I wonder if I got
into the wrong profession (hi hi). But, I couldn't get into a
job that constantly lied...we already have that with the
    politicians (hi hi).

    Carl, anything else?? >>>

    **

    KX4AC:

Nothing more from me. Everyone have a good week. 73 >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

Thanks for being here, Carl...have a good week.

Bob (OK), you get to wrap it up tonight. Anything else?? >>>

    **

    KF5TVG:

Nope. Thanks to Daryl and Bob (NY) for making the net possible!
    73 all >>>

    **

    N5VLZ:

    Thanks for being here, Bob.

That will do it for tonight's net. I will post the scribe either
sometime Tuesday or Wednesday, but I have to prepare for a net in
a bit...then I want to get some sleep before the storms arrive.

Stay safe, healthy, weather aware, and radio-active.

    73 and GN DE N5VLZ >>>
