    I had to completely install a new Synchronet bbs because I changed a feature and the whole thing went south. I like Synchronet but it's not very forgiving if you don't understand it's inner workings. You can drop mystic off the Empire state building and it will still run. I've got all the echos working now except Fidonet.

    Like you, I am up for trying out the various BBS software and I gave Synchronet a try.
    Unfortunately, I did something wrong when I tried an upgrade and the whole thing took
    a crap. That was the end of my working with Synchronet.

    Honestly, I am afraid to do updates on Mystic for that same reason. Winserver is my
    main system. Mystic is great for hubbing the networks. I don't feel the need to
    change it in any way.

    Having said that, I shut it down once month, zip up the entire directory so I can use it
    as a backup if anything bad happens.

    It still tanks quite often for me. I make a backup before I even change a textfile. I broke it last week adjusting my personal scanned message bases within the bbs. Sometimes I wish I were a computer programmer instead of a musician, but eventually my common sense returns. I like Mystic. It's a simple bbs to run. <grin>
