When I was growing up my parents used a lot of the common "parent-isms" many of us hear:

- "You'll understand when you're older"
- "Enjoy being a kid, it'll be over before you know it"
- "Money doesn't grow on trees" or "I'm not made of money"
- "Don't crack your knuckles or you'll get arthritis"
- "If you shake it more than twice, you're playing with it"

You know, stuff like that. Another one I recall hearing a lot is something along the lines of "<year> wasn't that long ago" or "the older you get, the faster time goes by".

This past weekend I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary, which really got me thinking: Where the hell did the time go?

It seems like "just a couple of years ago" I was one of the youngest guys working at my company, newly married & all bright-eyed and bushy tailed.

Blink a couple of times and here I am 20 years married and enjoying a nice weekend away at the ice wine festival in Niagara-on-the-lake. I guess I'm beginning to understand a lot of what my parents were saying, like "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".

I'll be turning 46 this year which also seems astonishing as I don't feel old enough to be someone my age! ;)

All-in-all, still a lot of tread on the tire and looking forward to matching or even beating my grandparents record of 66 years of marriage.

One of the things that I am amazed by, is how expressions like these have traversed different countries and generations. I'm not sure they have traversed languages, but its odd and yet amazing.

I know them all, remember them all from when I was a kid - how did that happen?

Did our parents all go to the same parent school? :)

Blink again, and you'll kick yourself as you realise that you are thinking about the retirement years (or setting yourself up for it, because it is happening soon...)

I remember being a kid in primary school calculating what age I would be in the year 2000 (the next century). Here we are, and we are already a 1/4 of the way through it. :(

Last night at 0100 EST, I was on The Roku Channel's website looking for something to watch. I found "Good Eats", a cooking show I loved from years

And it does just get worse as you get older. I can't believe I'm 71 and
I keep thinking of things that 'happened just a while back'.. and then
I realize they happened 25 or 35 years ago..

Bin there.. many times.. Take good care of yourself. I see so many
people my age falling apart and you can't just start getting into
better shape After you're older.

My doctor says she makes all choices to do with my health as if
I were 20 years younger and in better than average health'..
I have no problems with BP or Cholesterol or Diabetes and the
only prescription I have is for eye drops and the occasional
sinus issue, which seems to run in the family..
(Ha.. Noses run in my family..)

So it's not all in my head that I'm better off than most people
my age... But, as for genetics, my brother and sister are both
in far worse shape than I am..

I heard that. The '80s was my decade. Loved the music, the cloths, the culture. Got my first real job, my first computer, moved out on my own, first solo plane trip. Some downers, but all-in-all, a good decade.

When he was 14 he said his father was so ignorant that he couldn't
bear to be around him. When he was 21 he said that he was astounded
at how much the old man had learned in just seven years.. B)

I may have 'grown up' a bit quicker than a lot of classmates I think.
Most of them certainly didn't seem too clever or stable to me.. B)
