Unfortunaly the scanner no longer works as it uses a java based web app that runs on a secondary network port. I can force it to work by
booting a windows XP virtual machine and using IE 6, but it got to be a pain so I bought a inkjet printer I use as a scanner since the ink dried out in it.

for the warranty, if I pop one of the rollers out and bring the printer back near the end of the warranty they'll just give me a credit for a new printer.

Seeing as I don't print THAT much I almost never have to buy toner anymore.
I just use the toner that comes with the printer, when I run out, my printer mysteriously breaks (as long as it's in the 2nd year) and I go get a new printer for free and buy a new $30 warranty.

Maybe one of these days they'll catch on, but the original printer was purchased in ~2011 and I've been getting a new printer every 12-18 months
since then.

Exactly why I love my ancient lexmark. It just keeps chugging along.
What's great is how when it fires up the lights dim for a second. LOL

Yup, same with this Canon. We have these Ikea LED bulbs in the house now
which dim a bit. The previous CFL bulb (which I think came with the house) would sometimes go off completely when the printer sprang to life.

Yup, which is why I have no qualms about using the warranty.

Me too. the HP C2021 color laser at the shop is circa 2009.
Except for a couple of flimsy plastic latch/lever things that
broke for the 2nd external tray, all is still good. The 4
cartidges for it are pricey at $150+ each, but I only seem to
replace one every year on average.

but I don't I've bought a new one in about 5 years.

I worked at a large internet company and was responsible for managing
desktop support in North America. Our San Jose campus has around 3500 employees scattered across 10 or so buildings.

We had a change in desktop support providers, and I had a new team to
support the campus. I was trying to find ways to get them to learn the
campus, the customer teams, and get out to see what's going on beyond the desktop support area.

I came up with a scavenger hunt with prizes. One of the questions was:

"Identify the oldest printer (or the printer with the most pages) on campus"

The winning printer was an HP 4M made in 1992 with 600,000 pages on the engine.

The methodology varied.

1 person went from building to building with a clipboard and printed status pages from close to 150 printers and found it.

1 person figured "accounting" would have old printers they didn't want to replace, and found it.

1 person asked our print vendor to run a report from HP JetAdmin and found
it.

That's funny but truthful.

That's what I would have done.

When I worked at John Deere, there was a big HP (forget the model) laser printer -- you know, the one with the huge collating add-on that plugs into
the side -- that was used in shipping. Printer was four years old then and already had 1.1 million prints. That was in ... 2017.

Interesting. I would never have thought to "bother" the people
in accounting.

Hmmm.. likely that was someone who had experience with the
JetAdmin "secret" that it can work with non-HP printers too.

But what if the oldest printer was NOT connected to the
company-wide network? THAT's the printer you could have picked.

I would think some printers might be off-limits or in a secure
area.
