oh yeah, that's good stuff. i used it years ago when i wanted to push my backups to google drive and other services.

It's not the download size per se, but two things actually:

[1] it's an msi, which implies it wants hooks in the registry
and all that jazz. i don't want yet-another-windows prog that
does that.

[2]44mb would expand into a much larger prog. Sofar, restic
and rclone are much smaller and can accomplish great things in
a small pacakage. And.. the latter don't need their fingers
entwind in the WinOS system.

that's how it's been for a very long time. they discouraged the use of .ini files.

a small pacakage. And.. the latter don't need their fingers
entwind in the WinOS system.

so are you uploading them to a host with *unlimited? be careful.
i know people who got terminated because of that.

True enuff.. the windows registry tracks and records a lot of
stuff anyway.

About 15 yrs ago the host blocked ftp when I rigged up a couple
of cams to send updated images every few minutes. At that time
they said they had concern of the "regular ftp hits" or
something like that. But.. meanwhile, IoT devices and,
internet-connected NASes, and other new technologies have been
introduced. Hopefully the concern for using webstorage has
slackened to accomodate all the other kind of "server" activity
people use.

After my first large backup of files, the regular updates to
the webhost space would be smaller (only changed files), and
maybe just once a day at the most.

most hosts have something in the contract about you not using their service
as backup storage. they usually have separate services for that.
using a cheap host for backup storage is what will get you.

and you said they advertised 'unlimited', correct?

That's it's because it has its own internal Web server for use. As fore filezize, that's not an issue for me.

s3cmd is great also for unattended backups to AWS S3.

scp is very slow compared to other methods. rsync is great for local
backups. There's AMANDA and Bacula is you need heavy duty backups.
