Here's a little more from what I was able to dig up today too.
If you're a NYSEG (New York State Electric and Gas) customer like me it'll be coming this summer. I think National Grid has already started rolling them out.

Our utility is becoming part of the Internet of Things! BTW it's starting in the teens of dollars/month if you want to opt out from NYSEG's plan and they are getting rid of 90% of the meter readers.

They tend to operate in the 902-920Mhz right on top of the amateur portion. They are digital mesh net type transceivers. They are Part 15 FCC so consumer electronics and must accept interference from Part 97 Ham radio.

So that's the poop I have at the moment. I appreciate the typed in URL's I run linux here and did a build from source on SyncTERM on Paulee's suggestion. After than (as long as there isn't a lot of hidden formatting data) most of the time I can cut from a text window and paste here with shift+insert but I can't copy back out. I have tried the scroll back trick but think I'm missing something so I often just export the message and open it in Notepadqq and take it from there! Ah the slower internet...

Using SyncTerm in macOS here - the precompiled version because I haven't contacted Deuce on IRC yet to learn how to compile in macOS:

On BBSes that don't capture the mouse I can paste by right-clicking in the SyncTerm Window. (so this doesn't work on Mystic boards) And I can copy by selecting text with the mouse, which automatically copies to clipboard.

On BBSes that do capture the mouse (ie. Mystic), I have to use the scrollback buffer to copy. Option-B (alt-B) enters scrollback mode, then anything I select with the mouse is copied to clipboard. It took me a while to learn the scrollback trick! :) But I haven't found a way to paste.

As I am using a Macbook, I don't have an Insert key LMAO.

Eventually I'll figure out how to build SyncTerm from source in macOS and then I can modify the key shortcut or something. Or maybe I'll switch to IcyTerm or MagiTerm, but right now each has aspects I prefer and some I dislike. Nice that we have some options and there are multiple projects that still have developers!
