• Pi-VPN: How to boot remotely?

From paulie420@314:413/8 to All on Wed Aug 7 16:42:40 2024
So I love the Pi-VPN project and it works great for giving me access to my homelab when I'm on the road; a Raspberry Pi 4 just sits there and is ready to recieve my, and only my, connection and gets me access to all my dashboards when I'm in a hotel or away from home...

    Works perfectly, no issues. But...

I only use it like once a month - or so... what are some ways that I can BOOT IT UP only when needed?

I had a few thoughts - I could have a relay that gets activated only when something happens... maybe a file on my NAS, or... I dunno. I have some experience with Arduino devices, so I know I could get SOMETHING working - but does anyone else do this or have simple ways I could accomplish booting only when I need the device, and remotely???

I would say the easiest way is to just have a smart socket, SONOFF do a smart usb device, that you could remotely turn on using their app. Would be the most simple method. Personally I would tend to leave my PI-VPN on for whenever I am out as it is eeasier to connect to
