    Is the content downloadbale in a more sane way?
    (Eg. (authenticated?) HTTPS?

    Something like wget https://user:pass@webserver.com/files

    It is not about HTTPS ... it is about ease of download.
    And ineed the above is very easy to download, no need to mess with ancient stuff like zmodem.
    Simply do this:
    wget http://amigaclub.be/bs1/BS1%20part%201.zip
