I was about to ask if you have been livig under a rock the last year and a half. There was such a
fuss made when they banned Parler from the App stores of mainstream platforms, and Amazon also
    killed their hosting.

They basically colluded to kill Parler. And for practical purposes they did.

It is scary to see what big corpos can do.

Can't any one producer simply provide a download link for the
app (.APK)? And the app doesn not necessarily have to be
    exclusive to the App stores.

For example.. if interested in Parler, visit its own official
site, click on download link for app. Simple.

As we were talking on FSXNet, users are dumb beyond what people imagines. A whole lot
of people does not know how to download an APK from third party sites. Also, installing them in your phone makes Android complain and throw scary messages which
    put regulars away.

Parler comitted the mistake of making their application Amazon dependent too, so when
Amazon kicked them out they had to rebuild outside. That was as much of a killer.

it wasnt really the app that was the problem. their website was unusable. it was slow and things werent working out.

it was being ddos'd , tons of people were signing up and i dont think the servers could handle it.

They actually have a website login and they have a phone app you can download, But now that Bongino is no longer involved with Parler it's basically a dead zone on parler.

Ever notice how Democrats hate free speech and militantly try to shut it down like they did parler?
If you don't agree with their point of view some become very agressive like on the subject of Covid.

Ah.. so the Playstore .APK version needs to be considerably
different than the 3rd-party direct-download version? If so, I
did not realize that. And.. the only thing that ties an app to
Playstore is the fact that if it originates from there the
updates would originate from there automatically?

I installed the F-droid app on my BB10 (after the Playstore/
Google combo started having fits), and for the most part it
seems to cooperate. I can search and browse for apps, and it
automatically indicates which ones are compatible for my
device. But lately, the F-Droid app is having trouble updating
itself; the installs are failing. :(

the media was calling it a white nationalist site, nazi site and other things. when i went on there i just saw a site with normal people and just a few democrats that were trying to destroy it from the inside.

if democrats could push a button and disappear everyone who doesnt think like them, they certainly would. democrats and liberals do not appreciate diversity
    and freedom of thought.

the parler apps i used werent on the amazon appstore. i got them from google play and later from their website.

regarding your playstore app questions, the telegram google app and the telegram app on their website is different. there are censorship measures added in the google play store and maybe other shit.

It is not that third party APKs need to be substantially different than the store ones as much as the fact the user has to deliberately enable third party install for Android. A lot of people shies away from doing that because Android throws a lot of scary warnings. "Installing third party programs may toast your phone and get you infected with malware and kill your cat" stuff. A whole lot of people gets scared by those things.

Then yes, you lose automatic updates unless you us a third party repository that supports the APKG (such as F-Droid).

F-Droid is a bit erratic but for the most part it works well. I think most of their issues are related to having network usage spikes and their servers not being able to cope with the load at times.

The installation of the APKs itselves are done by Android and not F-Droid I think. F-Droid only does the downloading and listing.
